In today’s episode Shawn Honaker, shares his life journey from a farm in Indiana to becoming a cannabis cultivator and owner of Yeti Farms; the maker of cannabis edibles called Yetables. Shawn talks about cannabis has changed his life for the better. We also talk about startups, scaling and cultivation.
Indiana Farmer Turned Colorado Cultivator
He sees himself as an addict, using alcohol that was easy to get, celebrated and legal. As a young man he was highly successful but ended up homeless due to alcohol abuse. Cannabis was a way out.
Shawn started cultivating in 2005 as a hobbyist. He wanted to know where his cannabis was coming from, so he started with seeds from Amsterdam. First growing in a BC Northern Lights Bloombox he learned his craft, and in time buried shipping containers in a hill to scale up indoor growing. After experimentation with dirt, hydroponics, and detailed notes on what worked, he was soon selling 18lb a month to dispensaries, an all cash business.
As a way to lower costs, looked into growing outdoors, experimented over two seasons by making his own soils. in Pueblo Colorado. He has never looked back. Now he only makes gummy and growing a national profile for Yeti Farms edibles, Yetables.
Tetrahydrocannabinol (THC) Varieties
We talked at length about THC.
- Delta-9 THC Indica and Sativa, causes psychoactive experience, Indica, relaxing, Sativa, uplifting, limited legal in only some states
- Delta-8 THC – From a CBD hemp plant, there is a little bit of THC (<,3%) Get’s extracted and 6-9% THC. The THC Delta-9 is extracted leaving Delta-8. Indica like experience. Legal everywhere.
- Delta-10 THC – extracted from Delta-9 too, Sativa like experience, Legal everywhere
- THC 0 – when added to Delta 8 or 10 increases effect
- HHC – similar to Delta-9 similar psychosis effect

The entourage effect is where multiple Cannabinoids are hitting both CB1 and CB2 receptors all at one. This effect is highly regarded but not applicable to all people. Shawn thinks distinct cannabinoids are the future of medicine.
