In this episode we get to the root of the problem when it comes to growing cannabis. Our guest is Eric Olsen, Territory Manager at High Caliper Growing. Eric gave me a a Smart Pot at the Cannabis Conference and we discussed the challenges of growing cannabis and the benefits of using a fabric planter.
What’s a Smart Pot?
A Smart Pot is a growing container. Like plastic containers, it contains soil for seeds or plants and feed and water. However the benefits of the Smart Pot are the aeration, water drainage and heat release. These three benefits will help get a bigger better plant than what you have gotten in the past with the same size plastic or other container.
When you have superior drainage, the roots and the mycorrhizae fungal networks in the soil enables a symbiotic explosion of roots. From a superior root zone, growers experience increased yields, higher CBD/THC potency and a faster speed to harvest. Mycorrhizae play important roles in plant nutrition, soil biology, and soil chemistry. Air exchange with the soil, not only from the top, but also the sides enables healthy roots.
Value of No-Till Planting
Eric is a proponent of no-till. There is no need to dump soil, then and reamend with fertilizers. Churning up the soil damages the existing mycorrhizae fungal network. Instead he recommends you dig out the harvested plant, and re-sow with the fungal network already established. This will bootstart your growing schedule.
