How To Trade Hemp and CBD Like a Commodity with Jeff Schuh #43

Jeff Schuh GSCG

Jeff Schuh GSCGIn this episode we talk about a new technology designed to help cultivators, extractors and anyone looking to buy and sell hemp, CBD and other commodities, but do so with limited risk and for a fair market price. Our guest  is Jeff Schuh, the chief commercial officer at the Global Smart Commodities Group. GSCG has created a trading platform called Salus and it’s the same platform our previous guest from Kifcure, Kelly Burke, will be using for their hemp and cannabis exchange facility. So what exactly is this new platform?

Global Smart Commodity Group

Global Smart Commodity Group aims to serve all constituents in the commodity eco-system by providing best-in-class trading and risk management tools while striving to maintain Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) standards.

Global Smart Commodity Group has a primary focus on Hemp, Corn, Wheat, Onions, Carbon Credits, Rare Earth Metals, Cattle, Protein, Fertilizer, and Aloe Vera. Main responsibilities include business development, cap raise, onboarding users to the exchanges’ platform, writing standardized spot deliverable contracts which allow for price discovery, working with Govt. agencies such as USDA, DEA, FDA, and CFTC, collection of licenses, COA authentication, and education of our platform to growers, processors, handlers, and manufacturers.

Salus Platform

Salus platform helps find buyers, and execute raw material transactions on a safe and secure block-chain interface. It generates revenue for the exchange through transactions on a 2-sided spot market platform that allows for price discovery. Anybody can get an account for no fee. GSCG takes a 2% cut of all trades to monetize the platform.

Farmers can sell globally, not just to their local markets. They can place crops on the platform and sell anywhere in the world. Farmers can get a strong sense the value of their crop by looking at buy/sells around the world.

Buyers can’t be liars. Buyers place money in escrow in tokens on the platform to ensure deals are valid and executable via a pre-trade verification. With Salus, buyers need a broker to manage the deal (plus taking a cut), the system does all the work. For trades, 100% of the amount must be in stable coin. Payout is dripped out at time of transaction, shipping, delivery, and buyer COA analysis.

COA, a Certificate of Analysis, comes from a vetted lab who certifies the product is what it is. A true COA looks at the entire biomass and commodity. GSCG obtains analysis directly from the lab limiting any bias.  The Salus platform has track and trace functionality to prove the commodity is what it is. Good examples of data on the blockchain are RF tags on cattle, and health/pharma products. On the hemp side GSCG collect seed to table data for traceability. This creates the possibility of a QR code on a tincture can trace to the seed genetics.
